TRENDS 2011
Meaningful, Natural, Spiritual:
There is a new creativity trend inspired by yoga and a lifestyle for woman that
is more healthy and beautiful from within. Woman that did not wear jewelry
before are now wearing a simple piece every
day that they feel a strong connection to.
Refreshed in
Neutrals: There will be a natural, earthy
quality to spring’s palette that really suits the jungle and ethnic/gold
themes. In everyone's closets and jewelry boxes there will be ivory, white,
flax, shale, and black.
Exotic Gold: African and East Indian-inspired
yellow gold will be seen in many new collections this year. You will notice
an emphasis on ancient replicas with "knobby" granulation turned into
modern jewelry statements.
Y-Necklaces and
Clusters: Don't we all love uniquely feminine jewelry exclusively for the neck?
To boot, this design approach usually results in gems and pearls in bunches
either along the edges of a open loop chain or at end point of the Y. A great
alternative to the long chain look.
It's a Jungle
Out There!: Animal patterns and garden themes are trending strongly this spring. Along
with them are natural elements such as leaves,
berries and flowers, the color
green, dragonfly motifs and wild vine swirls.

NEWS
FROM MY STUDIO

My "workbench" is covered with pearls, pearls, and more pearls! "Pearls
are just so irresistible and so pleasurable. What is not to love about a big,
fat, juicy, imperfect pearl?" -quote from a customer admiring her new pearl
bracelet.
Freshwater
PEARLS: Pearls
cultured in a freshwater mussel rather than an oyster, these pearls are
harvested in many of China's freshwater lakes and rivers. They are available in
a range of colors from celadon to raspberry, and entire ranges of grays, creams,
pinks, and snowy whites.
Akoya PEARLS:
Saltwater cultured pearls produced in Akoya oysters that live in the shallow bays
off Japan. They are prized
for their luster and color, which is a range of white/creams to pale grays colored with
underlying pastel hues.
Keshi PEARLS:
Irregular-shaped pearls that are the by-product of the culturing process and are
non-nucleated, often created by mistake when trying to create a round pearl.
Keshi means "tiny" in Japanese but some of the pearls are fairly
large.
Mabe PEARLS:
Formed on the shell of a variety of oysters, mabes are made of nacre usually
round or teardrop-shaped being smooth on one side and irregular on the other
which why they are excellent as cabochons.
One might say that the pearl is a symbol of nature's will to survive and adapt.
Perhaps it is this symbolic life-struggle that explains why pearls have been
such treasured gems.

CARE
Congratulations
on your new jewelry purchase! It is my
wish that you get many years of wear and enjoyment out of your jewelry. I
therefore recommend that you care for it as you would any delicate heirloom. Do
not swim or shower, sunbathe, or exercise in your jewelry. Also remember to
apply perfume or hairspray before
you put on your jewelry.
My beads and gemstones are all genuine and are strung either on silk thread,
nylon thread, or on a fine to medium coated beading wire for durability. Your
jewelry should be stored flat or loosely rolled in your jewelry box or other
container. This will help to keep the silk from stretching, or the beading wire
from kinking, and chains from tangling.
Sterling
silver will polish up by rubbing or buffing it with a soft cotton cloth or one
you can purchase
inexpensively at K-mart or JC Penney. The
cloth is especially made for use on metals and should not be used on gemstones,
pearls, shell, or wood. Use of powders, dips, creams,
or lotions are not recommended. If you store silver in plastic bags with an
interlocking seal, it will be less prone to tarnish.
To revive
the sparkle of the gemstones, lightly cleanse your beads in your hand with a
small portion of dish soap, rinse well and gently pat dry. How often you choose
to clean your jewelry is up to you—but handle with love and your piece will
return it ten-fold.
